| Hips don't lie double-Platinum digital single certification | | Tue Jul 29, 2008 10:53 am by judarojas | The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has handed out its monthly Gold and Platinum plaques for the month of June, with Madonna's Hard Candy earning a Gold record along with her single, "4 Minutes." Welsh singer Duffy’s debut album, Rockferry, achieved Gold status within one month of its release, marking the first certification for the young artist to commemorate more than 500,000 in sales.
Additional first Gold records went to Ashley Tisdale for both her debut album Headstrong and her popular single, "He Said, She Said." Pop/rockers Metro Station also hit the Gold mark for the first time with their single, "Shake It." Reaching Platinum prestige is Linkin Park for "Shadow of the Day," since the single sold more than one million copies.
Elsewhere, double-Platinum digital single certifications were awarded to Shakira for "Hips Don’t Lie" and Finger Eleven for the ubiquitous hit "Paralyzer." Seether earned its fourth Gold record for Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces, and they also earned a Gold single for the track "Fake It."
The highest album certification in June – 7x multi-Platinum – went to Evanescence’s Fallen to commemorate sales exceeding seven million copies since the album’s unveiling five years ago.

Shakira arrived to Colombia accompanied by one of the most recognized philanthropists worldwide, a man who works for children in the whole world. She spoke exclusively to Noticias RCN in Barranquilla, just moments before she left the country.
With a humble invitation that cannot be ignored by a man who is so interested in fighting against poverty, Shakira convinced the multimillionaire to visit Colombia.
"It really wasn't very hard to convince him, because he is a very compromised man, with a very big heart, who is willing to invest in Latin America. And I've talked so much about Colombia that he was curious to come and see what the situation was. And it was important for me to introduce him into country and let him see the difficulties in which these people live."
Between Chocó and Barranquilla, she showed him the reality of displaced children due to violence, hundreds of her Godchildren ran around behind the both of them. "I wanted him to understand the difficulty of the situation, but also the potential of our kids, the talent they possess, their intelligence, and if they receive an opportunity on time, they will become very productive members of our
society." She said.
The American Multimillionaire was interested in lending a helping hand. "I think he was impressed by the situation, but he also was impressed by the vivacity of the face of those, with which we had the opportunity to converse and I know he's willing to do something for Colombia, he wants to help." The artist assured.
Shakira talked about her new work, but it is still a mystery, "At this moment, I'm very concentrated on the production and I'm trying to push my new album so I can present my audience with something." She said.
The singer said she would go back to Colombia at any moment and without warning to finish the school she is building in her city which will be ready at any moment.

The board of concert promoter Live Nation signed off on its roughly $70 million deal for pop star Shakira last week and a deal is expected to be announced within days, The Post has learned.
Sources said the deal will be for recording, touring, merchandising and other rights, known in the industry as a "360 deal."
Inking the Shakira deal comes just one week after a brawl in Live Nation's boardroom prompted the resignation of Michael Cohl as chairman. The battle focused on the number - and type - of artists the company is signing, as well as the economics of such deals.
Cohl's departure has sent shock waves through Live Nation, with employees in the company's Artist Nation division - which was set up to house Madonna, Jay-Z and the other artists expected to sign 360 deals - fearing layoffs.
Though Live Nation and Shakira have been in talks for about 10 months, sources said after last week's negative press, CEO Michael Rapino wanted to move quickly to finalize the deal as a way to reassure employees the he was committed to the Artist Nation strategy.
A spokesman for Live Nation declined comment. Shakira's lawyer, David Lande, did not return multiple calls for comment.
While the value of the Shakira deal is less than the $120 million Live Nation agreed to pay Madonna and the $150 million it committed to Jay-Z, sources said the price tag being bandied about was still a robust payday for the "Hips Don't Lie" singer.
"That's rich for an organization that wants to be [conservative] with these kinds of deals," said a source close to Live Nation.
